In order to strengthen its leadership in high magnetic field production, the LNCMI has started the construction of a hybrid magnet, aiming at producing 43 T in 34 mm diameter. Engineers plan to gradually increase the maximum field up to 45 T and above, by optimizing the resistive part of the hybrid magnet. This magnet will produce 35 T with 12 MW, half of the power currently required to produce such a field. The table below summarizes the different possible configuration of field and bore diameter that it will be possible to achieve with the hybrid magnet.
The superconducting part of the hybrid magnet is funded by investissements d’avenir (Equipex LaSUP), région Rhône-Alpes and Fonds Européen de Développement Régional (FEDER).
