{"id":17866,"date":"2024-04-03T14:44:12","date_gmt":"2024-04-03T12:44:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lncmi.cnrs.fr\/non-classifiee\/the-new-60-mva-225-kv-15-kv-transformer-is-in-place\/"},"modified":"2025-07-07T11:28:38","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T09:28:38","slug":"the-new-60-mva-225-kv-15-kv-transformer-is-in-place","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lncmi.cnrs.fr\/en\/news\/the-new-60-mva-225-kv-15-kv-transformer-is-in-place\/","title":{"rendered":"The new 60 MVA 225 kV\/15 kV transformer is in place"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The new transformer financed by ERDF funds from the Auvergne-Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes region and CNRS is now in place on the CNRS campus in Grenoble!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Laboratoire National des Champs Magn\u00e9tiques Intenses, one of the CNRS&#8217;s major research facilities, is now directly connected to the 225,000 V high-voltage grid managed by RTE at national level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>September 28, 2023; arrival of the 60 MVA 225 kV\/15 kV transformer from SIEMENS-Italy through the Fr\u00e9jus tunnel.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"841\" height=\"326\" src=\"https:\/\/lncmi.cnrs.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/camion.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lncmi.cnrs.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/camion.jpg 841w, https:\/\/lncmi.cnrs.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/camion-480x186.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 841px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The transformer and its heat exchangers in its dedicated building, ready for user service.<br><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"421\" height=\"316\" src=\"https:\/\/lncmi.cnrs.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/transfo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lncmi.cnrs.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/transfo.jpg 421w, https:\/\/lncmi.cnrs.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/transfo-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 421px) 100vw, 421px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a power rating of 60 MVA, this transformer can now increase the power distributed to electromagnets for intense magnetic fields from 24 to 30 MW. Equipped with a new-generation fast-response voltage regulator, this transformer provides better management of the network voltage during the magnetic field ascent and descent phases piloted by the researchers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The immediate benefit for the international user community is improved stability and a greater margin of safety during experiments in very intense fields. In addition, current magnet tests and developments aim to increase the magnetic field values available in different configurations, taking advantage of the extra power now available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, direct connection to a high voltage level enables us to reduce joule losses and become a player in the regulation of the national power grid.
